Episode 31

Bruce Fielding: The one with the Militant Soapbox!

In this episode of “How Do You Say That?!” sponsored by britishvoiceover.co.uk, former copywriter turned voice artist Bruce Fielding joins Sam and Mark to talk about a very famous ad campaign he was involved in, how casting the voice is crucial, and Sam gets feisty about regional accents.

Our VO question this week is all about what you like to see in a script, and what makes you groan when you see it!

We’d love you to join in and send us your version of one of the reads in today’s show – just pop it onto an mp3 and send it to podcast@britishvoiceover.co.uk

Script 2

Now here is a short recitation ‘bout a man who won fortune and fame by making a right special flour. Tom Allinson, that were his name. For just after th’ Industrial Revolution, all but he were for bread white as snow. They thought it were purer than wholemeal. But young Tom in a loud voice said “No”. “Yon white bread’s alright that I'll grant you, but you've taken away some of clout. Wholemeal’s better all told for young people ‘cause it's bread that’s had now’t taken out”. And now, over a hundred years later, it's been proved beyond reasonable doubt. T’were Tom Allinson’s thoughts that were proper. And bread’s better wi’ now’t taken out.

About our guest: Bruce Fielding hasn't lived a quiet life. He once blew up buildings for a living, he's rented out deckchairs and he helped explorers reach the North Pole in a rowing boat. But mostly, he's worked as an Advertising Creative. His background as an advertising copywriter serves him well in communicating messages with just the right amount of 'sell'. These days, he voices Corporate narration, Documentaries, eLearning and Explainer videos and lots more!
